FRANCISCO LLORET
Co-ordinator of the Scientific Seminar
Francisco Lloret is Senior Professor of Ecology in the Department of Animal Biology, Vegetal Biology and Ecology in the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is also a researcher in CREAF (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals) and currently holds the post of assistant director of the Associated European Laboratory “Mediterranean ecosystems in a world of change”. He has participated in numerous local and international projects on the dynamics of vegetation in relation to global climate change.
JAUME TERRADAS
Jaume Terradas is Professor Emeritus of Ecology in the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Necessity and imagination led him to propose the creation of CREAF (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals) and he is now an honorary member of its board. In 2005 he published Biography of the World. From the Origin of Life to Ecological Collapse, which won the Crítica Serra d’Or Prize in 2007.
ALBERT PÈLACHS
Albert Pèlachs is a professor in the Department of Geography in the Autonomous University of Barcelona and has conducted most of his research in the Pallars Sobirà as a member of the GRAMP. His doctoral thesis, Ten thousand years of environmental geohistory in the Central Catalan Pyrenees. Applications of palaeogeographical techniques to study the territory and landscape in the Coma de Burg and la Vallferrera (2004), provides information of great interest for the reinterpretation of the history of the Pyreneean landscape and its anthropization.
IOLANDA FILELLA
Iolanda Filella is a Senior Scientist in the CSIC. She belongs to the CSIC-CEAB-CREAF (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals) ecophysiology unit. Ecologist specializing in vegetal ecophysiology. Recent subjects of study: global change, climate change, atmospheric pollution, teledetection, vegetal ecophysiology, phenology, functioning and structure of the Mediterranean ecosystems. J. JULIO CAMARERO
J. Julio Camarero graduated in Biological Sciences in 1993 in the University of Salamanca. He wrote his Doctoral thesis on the dynamics of the altitudinal limit woodland in the Pyrenees and their relationship with climate change in the Dept. of Ecology of Barcelona University and obtained the special doctorate prize. During his training he was awarded grants by CSIC, MEC (Training of Research Staff) and the Generalitat of Catalonia. He has participated in collaborations with Catalan centres such as CSIC, INIA and various universities.
LLUÍS SABADELL ARTIGA
Artist, performer, curator and designer (for theatre, etc.). He graduated in Fine Arts from the Universitat de Barcelona in 1997 and received a Master’s Degree in Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Thought from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2008. In 2005 he created the project Híbrids 2.0 (www.hibrids.net) to reflect on the relationships between human beings and their environment from the ecological viewpoint. He has continued running this project until today, as well as curating exhibitions and organising workshops, seminars and conferences on Art and Ecology, Post-Oil Cities and Ecological Architecture.
